SUMMARY "INNER PEACE A Simple Path"
Chapter 1 – Introduction
In this chapter, the concept of peace is introduced. It is initially presented in a way that can be understood physically, i.e. with a lack of noise. As humans, we are more in tune with our physical aspects. Any stories that can correlate with what we are familiar with will relay the message much more concisely. This is why parables were sometimes used in the various religious writings.
Some arguments are also presented as to how we can be robbed of this physical peace. We have created our society in such a way that it forces us to get embroiled with chaos. This is evident because that need for a vacation from “All This Calamity” is always a welcomed break.
As with any communication, there are issues with the transmission of messages. Ensuring that the correct message is relayed can be problematic. Some of the issues (words, perception, the effect of ego), are highlighted in this chapter.
Chapter 2 – Where do you Start?
Before you can start on a journey, it is important that your current location is known. For the journey of life, this is also true. In chapter 2, aspects of the human being are explored to help assess one’s current life position – Physical, Mental and Spiritual.
There is also a section on reflection of one’s ability, i.e. the demons of failure. Encouragement is provided that failure should not be looked upon as a bad thing. In fact, it is a necessary element for progress.
Chapter 3 – The Journey
This is where the rubber meets the road. The journey starts with the introduction of the necessary tools. Tools can make any arduous task a bit less complex. This is true in all the realms stated (Physical/Mental/Spiritual).
Tool # 1 - Breathing & Meditation
Tool # 2 - Eating
Tool # 3 - Exercise
Tool # 4 - Gratitude
Tool # 5 - Expression of Love
Tool # 6 - Gurus, Teachers and Coaches
Tool # 7 - Decision-making
Tool # 8 - Music
Tool # 9 - Sexual Intercourse
Additional aspects of Forgiveness and Feelings are explained in a simple manner. The simplicity does not nullify the importance of these aspects.
Each one is expanded upon in more detail in the book.
Chapter 4 – Beware of Minefields
No journey can be expected to be problem free, hence the warning about the minefields. The first minefield to navigate beyond is the mind. The pointers included are all valuable when dealing with this evasive element called the mind. If left to its devices, it can become a runaway steam train with massive momentum jumping off the tracks and landing in some undesirable location. This should be avoided. The book tells you how.
There are also two very highly influential sources that are discussed - society and religion.
Chapter 5 – Detachment and Surrender
The key to inner peace is found here in this chapter. Without these, it is impossible to attain inner peace. This sounds simple but can be tricky to accomplish.
The pointers in the book help to resolve the issue and make the transition smoother.
Chapter 6 – Finally – Inner Peace
In accordance with the disclaimer in the first chapter about relaying a message, this chapter is presented as a questioning plug for the reader. The question posed is “How will you know that you have arrived at that place of inner peace?”
There will be many places for reflection here. It is a worthwhile exercise when reading the points that resonate within.
